The Blackheath Community Alliance is a partnership of Blackheath-based community groups including BANC and Chamber who want to work together for the betterment of Blackheath, its residents and businesses. The Alliance was formed ahead of the 2012 local council elections.
Since the 2012 Council election the Alliance has met regularly with Ward 1 Councillors Begg, McGregor and Stock. Working together the Alliance has achieved funding for the Community Centre, the War Memorial and the public toilets in Govetts Leap Road. The Alliance has also met with and formed a working relationship with local police to address community concerns.
In June representatives of the Alliance met with BMCC general manager and senior staff to discuss The Memorial Park, Katoomba to Mt Victoria bike track and local traffic issues.
Since then the Alliance has hosted a guided ‘Walk in the Park’, introducing Councillors and senior Council staff to issues confronting The Memorial Park. We are working with all levels of government towards upgrading this iconic park, acknowledging its historical, geographical and social significance. High on our agenda is revamping Gallipoli Steps ahead of the 1915 centenary.
The Alliance has recently met with candidates of the major parties to raise a number of issues, including the need for more capacity at the local phone exchange and high speed internet, creation of local jobs, and prioritisation of the movement of freight by rail.
By working together, all Blackheath-based groups are joining forces as an Alliance to advocate for and to maximise opportunities for Blackheath that will benefit all local residents and businesses.
Alliance members include: Blackheath Area Neighbourhood Centre (BANC); Blackheath Chamber of Commerce & Community; Blackheath Community Centre Committee; Blackheath Croquet Club; Blackheath & District Horticultural Society; Blackheath Highway Action Group (BAG); Blackheath Public School Council; Blackheath & Mt Victoria Rural Fire Service; Blackheath Quota; Blackheath Scouts; Blackheath RSL; Blackheath Streetscape Group; Blue Mountains Rhododendron Society; Friends of Blackheath Pool & Memorial Park; Medlow Bath Residents Association; Popes Glen Bushcare Group; Rhododendron Festival Committee; Rotary Blackheath; Rotary Upper Blue Mountains Sunrise.
