BANC Christmas Party 2012

Have you ever wandered past a Croquet lawn and thought, “How quaint! I must try it some day.” Well, it’s not like that at all and you should! You’ll soon discover the magic of mallet sports, whether it be Golf Croquet, Association Croquet or Gateball, all of which we play here at Blackheath.

Playing times

Golf Croquet on Monday, Wednesday, Friday or Saturday mornings
Gateball (a faster, highly strategic team game) on Monday and Friday mornings or Sunday afternoons by arrangement
Association Croquet on Saturday afternoons by arrangement.

You can find our small but super-friendly Club at Clanwilliam Street, Blackheath (next to the Blackheath oval). Wear flat soled shoes. It’s fun, friendly and suitable for all ages.

HELP REMOVE ROAD FREIGHT FROM THE GREAT WESTERN HIGHWAY

The Great Western Highway passes through 10 school zones, 44 speed zones, 26 traffic lights and 17 towns and villages. The Highway also runs through a World Heritage Area and National Park.

We need a long term, sustainable solution to the transport needs of the Central West, not a highway widening that will result in a truck tsunami which will forever change the Blue Mountains.

There is an online petition on Change.org (see link below) Please go online and read the petition and if you agree with the proposal please sign online.

The advantage of an online petition is that every time there is a signee an email is sent to the politician.

Help the voice of Blue Mountains Residents be heard.

Blue Mountains Environment Appeal

If you read the local news you will be aware that our Blue Mountains environment is increasingly coming under threat.

The Blue Mountains Conservation Society is a non-political, not-for-profit organisation with the mission to conserve the natural environment of the Blue Mountains and to increase public environmental awareness. Our recent successful campaigns have included:

legal action to stop power stations from polluting the Coxs River
achieving World Heritage Listing for the Blue Mountains
protecting wilderness by preventing the filming of a Hollywood Movie at Mt Hay
conserving our endangered Blue Mountains Hanging Swamps.

We are presently facing an unprecedented number of attacks on our local environment. Our long list of current campaigns includes:

opposing an open-cut coal mine proposal in Ben Bullen State Forest
expanding the Gardens of Stone reserves (‘Stage 2’)
addressing major flaws in the proposed new Local Environment Plan
opposing hunting and logging in our National Parks
resisting the proposed Metropolitan Urban Area for the lower Blue Mountains
stopping Coal Seam Gas exploration in the Greater Blue Mountains
opposing the flooding of the stunning Kowmung River by raising Warragamba Dam.

We are also very active in promoting the enjoyment and understanding of our local environment through our bushwalking groups, bushcare groups, environmental education programs (including Bush Trackers), Hut News newsletter and our native plant nursery.

As a not-for-profit organisation we have limited resources. With ever more threats to our local environment we are increasingly relying on your support to protect the environment of our iconic region.
