THEN CONSIDER JOINING ECOPELLA!

Ecopella is a multi-city choir whose powerful, sophisticated a cappella music is concerned with environmental themes. Ecopella’s sense of fun fills each performance with positive and satirical messages. Even when the mood gets serious, the beauty and solemnity of our music is always uplifting.

One of the benefits of joining Ecopella is performing at a variety of festivals.  For example, this year the Blue Mountains Ecopella choir has been accepted to perform at the St Albans Festival.

Our Blue Mountains branch meets at BANC on the 1st and 3rd Monday evenings of each month. Contact Miguel 9810 4601 or email miguel@ecopella.org

******MARDI GRAS HISTORY*****

Come and take a journey through the history of Mardi Gras, Sydney’s iconic parade and festival, and celebrate 35 years of LGBTQI pride and diversity.

The outrageous fun and utter fabulousness, the costumes and controversy, the tears and triumphs of a glorious 35 years are spectacularly put on show in an exhibition that will entertain, engage and leave you proud. Drawing on a diverse array of archival material from public and private collections, the exhibition covers the key themes, events and wonderful personalities that have helped shape the festival into what it is today.

This is a free event, but donations are encouraged.

*****ITEMS OF INTEREST*****

INTERSEX

Some people have asked me what the term Intersex means.

‘The term intersex was first used by science in the early 20th century to describe human beings whose biological sex cannot be classified as clearly male or female; historically, the term “hermaphrodite” was used. An intersex person may have the biological attributes of both sexes or lack some of the biological attributes considered necessary to be defined as one or the other sex.

Intersex is always congenital and can originate from genetic, chromosomal or hormonal variations. Environmental influences such as endocrine disruptors can also play a role in some intersex differences. The term is not applicable to situations where individuals deliberately alter their own anatomical characteristics.

Intersex people represent a significant percentage of the population.’ (from website)

***And you think things have changed so much ?*** Anti discrimination laws do no apply to religious organisations including nursing homes. Is it any wonder many elderly LGBTI people are afraid for their future?

“More religious aged care providers are pressuring the federal government to allow them to continue to turn away elderly gay and lesbian people.

Sydney-based charity Hammondcare has suggested it will decline Commonwealth funding if it is forced to accept same-sex people, particularly couples, into retirement homes that it runs.”

Just to remind you:
